Melanie Therrien
Local Artist and Illustrator Melanie Therrien is the Owner and Operator of Wicked Illustrations Studio and Gallery in Lewiston. Serving its community since 2007, Wicked Illustrations is dedicated to the education, creation and enjoyment of art. Melanie offers several services, products and programs from art classes and parties to art supplies and monthly featured artists. Melanie is also deeply involved in her community and through civic engagement has helped launch public events and public art projects. As part of the Union of Maine Visual Artist LA Chapter and the Downtown Lewiston Art District Melanie has painted a fire hydrant, a sidewalk mural, designed a crosswalk, and painted 2 murals; one on Centreville Garage and one on Rainbow Bike, both in Lewiston. Melanie’s own original work is dedicated to the mystery, beauty and power of nature in her preferred medium of acrylic. While she enjoys exploring all types of subject matter, she is drawn towards the organic designs, flow and color in flowers, fruit and vegetables. Melanie also focuses on images that are aesthetically pleasing rather than thought provoking. She thinks of her art as a break for herself and for the viewer and hopes that she can somehow share the benefits of the therapeutic process of creation with her viewer through the images the process creates. Her illustration work is ongoing for 2 authors including an award winning children’s book series, The ElsBeth Adventures by J Bean Palmer. She lives in Lewiston with her husband and 4 fur babies.

I enjoy seeing the world through the eyes of an artist. I don’t just stop to smell the flowers, but to ponder their design. As an art teacher I love sharing with students how to see as an artist and how artists see things that most people do not. Once one learns to paint a cloud or a tree for example, one looks at the world differently; the colors, the shapes, textures of the clouds, the vibrant colors on the trunks of trees, and how the light dances on the foliage. This, to me, is the true nature of art.
